Says Viollet-le-Duc of round towers: "c'étaient des phares, ou fanaux, pour announcer la nuit au voyageurs la présence d'une égliese ou d'une abbaie". / Lord Dunraven thinks is no existing round tower / older than 900. / [...] / Note.
